Large Tree Trunk Table Carl Auböck
Description
Large tree trunk table designed and made by the Auböck werkstätte in circa 1950.
Carl Auböck II, responsible for the design of this series, graduated at the Bauhaus under Johannes Itten, a Swiss expressionist painter and designer, and was an abstract painter before to take over the workshop in early 40s. Hence, pieces like this can be seen as a translation of his ideas about art into a three-dimensional object, which thus stands really on the boundary line between fine and decorative art.
Stamped '12' on the underside of the walnut 'haunch' next to two of the three brass legs.
In excellent condition.
