#3655 Shovel Ashtray
for the Palace Hotel
Carl Aubock II, 1950s

£450

Description:

A solid, sand-cast brass shovel ashtray designed by Carl Auböck II during the 1950s.

Engraved for the Palace Hotel, St Moritz, this unusual ashtray may have been one of many made for the prestigious, luxury hotel founded in 1896. A destination of opulence since it opened, the Palace Hotel hosted the Winter Olympics in the 1920s and again in the 1940s, as well as an abundance of Hollywood glitterati during the 1950s.

If this ashtray could talk, we could only imagine the stories if could tell!

Like all cast Auböck pieces, vintage and new, the design has a deeply tactile weight and a beautifully patinated surface.
