A black leather Safari Chair, designed by Kaare Klint in 1933 and produced by Rud Rasmussen during the 1950s.

This leather "Safari" or " Campaign" chair was designed by Danish architect, designer, and academic, Kaare Klint in 1933. Also referred to as the KK 47000, the design of this lightweight, collapsible chair borrowed from the genre of portable military furniture used by the British during the first half of the 20th century, but that also dates as far back as Roman times.

Klint's 1930s reimagining of the Safari Chair elevates this portable military staple whilst preserving the intrinsic functionality of the original. The addition of a seat cushion enhances the comfort of the leather sling seat. The front cross bar is slightly higher than the back, encouraging the sitter to recline slightly, sitting into rather than onto the chair. The leather backrest is also secured only at the top, allowing it to pivot to support the sitters back as they recline.
