Carved Solid Oak Armchair
William Birch, Circa 1900

Description:

An oak armchair designed by E. Punnett and made by William Birch of High Wycombe, around 1895.
All parts of the carved wood frame are made of solid oak and the seat is woven rush. The stretcher at the front of the chair has been turned to create a decorative incised section. Incised decoration can also be found on each of the legs. Variations of this Art & Crafts design were retailed through fashionable London stores such as Liberty & Co, Wolfe & Hollander and Hamptons. The generous width of the seat in addition to the high back and armrests make the chair incredibly comfortable despite any cushioning.
