Extendable Solid Pine Table
Knud Friis & Elmar Moltke Nielsen
Description
An extendable solid pine table designed by Danish architects Knud Friis & Elmar Moltke Nielsen in the 1950s.
Although made of solid wood and being impressive in size and proportions the table has a visual lightness and playfulness. This could be owed to the bold, straightforward and familiar shapes that make up the form, the light colour of the wood used and the smaller diameter steel feet of the table. The drop leaf can be kept folded at the end of the table or removed. To bring the leaf into use, one is to simply lift the extension and draw from under the main table top the two supporting brackets. Being solid wood throughout the table is super robust and fit for any purpose – as it could in theory be re-finished numerous times in the future. All sections of the pine wood now boast a rich honey coloured patina.
