Sculptural Wall Hung Vase
by Carl Auböck
Description
An exceedingly rare wall vase designed and made by Auböck II, Vienna, circa 1950. The main body of the vase is a cone formed from solid brass. The brass cone is almost entirely bound by wicker, only a centimeter of the rim at the top and a centimeter of the bottom of the cone have been left visible. The wicker that has been tightly woven around the vase features an intricate braid design centre front. Where the lattice plait starts and ends echoes the 1 cm space of exposed brass. Clearly stamped with the Auböck workshop signature as well as Made in Austria.
