Square Wicker Table Carl Auböck
Description
A medium sized square wicker table designed and made by Carl Auböck II, Vienna, Austria, circa 1950.
Werkstätte Carl Auböck began a greater exploration of wicker as a material for household objects during the post-Second World War era. This was partially due to the Austrian governments subsidization of the manufacture of wickerwork that was undertaken by people left physically challenged as a result of WWII.
The table's frame is made from slender steel bar which has been lacquered in black. The table top is constructed entirely from tightly woven wicker.
The simplicity of the materials used and their proportions result in a charmingly sweet design that is also very practical.
The side table is in superb original vintage condition. The table remains very strong and the wicker has a interestingly varied patina.
