Wall Mountable Rack of Hooks
Carl Auböck
Description:
A vintage set of five metal hooks fixed within a wall mountable solid wood shelf. The object was designed and made by Carl Auböck II, Austria, circa 1950 and was undoubtably intended to hold dried sausages/cuts of meat. Correspondingly, in the past the item was in all likelihood referred to simply as 'a meat rack'.
Today the rack could still absolutely be used in the kitchen (for utensils or foods which dislike contact) but also in as many different rooms as you could name. The strength and delicacy of the hooks mean they could be used for items as small as keys or as weighty as a dustpan and brush.
The hooks are most probably cast aluminium whilst the wooden shelf is solid mahogany which has been varnished. The colour contrast between the white metal hooks and dark reddish hues of the wood is fantastic and somehow seems to ennoble whatever is hung on the rack.
