Model 5763 Armoire

Description:
An armoire in Cuban mahogany and oak designed by Kaare Klint and made by master cabinetmaker Rud Rasmussen, Denmark.
The tall, floor standing, cabinet, assigned model number 5763, was designed by Professor Klint in 1938. In the same year, the design was shown at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild exhibition, 1938.
Two doors front the armoire, the door on the right-hand side is fitted with a brass escutcheon and the key within is used to open and close the piece. However, the locking mechanism no longer works.
To the interior, are 24 identically sized open-fronted compartments. Each section features a brass label plate. Beneath the pigeonholes is a larger, full-width, storage area. All the dividing walls, the back wall and floor of the interior are constructed of solid oak.
The shell of the closet is covered in large sections of brilliantly grained Cuban mahogany. Each side and door is still a gloriously rich and even colour. Accentuating the liveliness of the mahogany is the black lacquered kickboard.
All aspects of the armoire are in excellent condition and the cabinet is not only a functional piece of furniture but a great example of the work of Klint, whose teachings laid the foundations for the philosophical basis of modern Scandinavian design.
